With the introduction of their built-in knee block in 2021, Bauer has been on the leading edge of goaltending technology, and the Mach pad is no exception.
Key features include Bauer’s SL1D3R skin, ShockLite core with a re-engineered flex profile, and an improved strapping and calf plate system, along with many more features and tweaks to make this the best Supreme pad to date.
External Material
Bauer has updated their external material on the Mach line opting for a more durable material they now call their SL1D3R skin. This external covering is a one-piece molded design that provides better sliding, increased rebound pop and improved durability.
Internal Construction
The Mach pad features an updated ShockLite core with a Curv composite reinforced thigh. This new core is noticeably stiffer than that of the Ultrasonic and is designed to boost rebound speed while remaining light and true to the feel of a stiff pad.
Pad Break
Stock off the wall, the Mach pad has a break below the knee with a straight, stiff thigh and a soft yet steep boot angle like the Supreme family pads that precede it. Keep in mind if you prefer a softer pad, you can change the flex in a custom order.
Boot Angle & Toe Taper
The boot angle on the Mach leg pad is a soft flex 120 degree boot. When paired with the stiffer core, a softer boot flex allows for better mobility in the crease compared to other stiff pads. Toe taper comes in at 90 degrees to ensure a flush post and butterfly seal.
Knee Block
First seen on the Ultrasonic, the Mach pads feature Bauer’s Stabilislide technology. This knee block design uses a bracket to mount to the core of the pad creating a rigid slide surface that has a much more stable feel in the butterfly.
Strapping
Bauer has tweaked their leg channel and strapping for this new Supreme pad. Tune-Fit is the result of multiple generations of refinement of the Tune-Fit system. This iteration features a V-shaped strap that is a fixed size but is adjustable allowing for that tighter or looser fit. This design better wraps and secures the calf than the previous elastic Y strap that doesn’t give the same level of consistency. The calf wrap itself has been extended offering better coverage while remaining lightweight and malleable through the use of Bauer’s AeroLite foam.
Bauer has also brought a new Calf Support System to the Mach pad. Similar to their knee block designs, the calf plate is now also attached into the core of the pad. This improves the seal of the pad as well as the balance and feel when in the butterfly. A molded calf pillow like that on the Hyperlite is also now used to help with that more solid landing area.
